Tips For Summer Feet

Summer is right around the corner and with it all sorts of fun summer activities. While summer can be a great time for lots of fun like hiking, going to the beach or a picnic in the park, summertime can present certain difficulties for your feet. Below we’ve put together some tips to make sure your feet stay healthy and happy all summer long.



  • Poolside Fun – Summer is the perfect time to relax by the pool. However, as podiatrists we often see foot and ankle injuries caused by accidents by the pool. Remember, you are in a slippery environment, so try to wear sandals with good grip. Also, if you wear sandals instead of going barefoot in common areas like pools, you will decrease your chance of catching several foot problems like athletes foot and toenail fungus.

  • Fun In The Sun – It’s a solid bet that most people remember to put sunscreen on their face, shoulders and arms , but don’t forget about your feet! Make sure to apply a sunscreen of at least 30 SPF and remember to reapply every few hours, especially if your are going in and out of the water.

  • Wear The Right Shoes – While it can be tempting to wear your sandals all summer long, there’s just some activities that require more support than a sandal can offer. If you are going hiking, playing sports with friends, or just walking all day long, you want to opt for a shoe with more support, such as a good running or walking shoe.
