Lapiplasty Bunion Surgery

A revolutionary new procedure for bunions

Bunions are a common and painful foot problem. A bunion appears as a bump on the side of the base of the big toe. As the bunion progresses the bump becomes larger and the big toe drifts inward toward the second toe. This problem has primarily a hereditary cause, but the bunion can be aggravated by close toed tight shoes, especially heels, as they put more body weight on the first metatarsal bone in the foot, causing the bunion to progress at a faster rate. Bunions are a progressive deformity, meaning that without proper medical intervention the bunion will only get worse on it’s own.

Most patients suffering from bunions dread traditional bunion surgery, and more many reasons. Traditional bunion surgery can keep the patient off of their feet for 6 to 8 weeks of recovery. Not only that, but traditionally bunion surgery only corrects a bunion deformity in 2 anatomic planes, which made the bunions likely to reform.

Traditional Bunion Surgery

Traditional bunion surgery does remove the bump at the big toe joint, but unfortunately does nothing to address the underlying issue that causes the bunion. This is why with traditional bunion surgeries often results in a high recurrence of bunions.

The Solution: Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction

Lapiplasty is a new type of bunion surgery that addresses the major issues that most patients have with traditional bunion surgery. Lapiplasty corrects the bunion in all 3 anatomic planes at the root of the unstable metatarsal. This correction at the metatarsal greatly reduces the chances of the bunion recurring. Because of the advanced techniques and technology used in Lapiplasty the procedure can allow for protected weight bearing walking in as little as 3 days.
